How can you get paid to write?
There are two main possibilities in the online world and a third possibility which is a hybrid approach.
Let’s take a look.
Possibility one: Start your own blog about topic XThe first possibility assumes the most risk:
You start your own blog from scratch about whatever topic you want, and then attempt to build that website into a viable business.
This was a lot easier in the past than it is today. But it is still a viable approach if you are serious about it.
I would suggest that:
1) You need to be prepared to put out a small amount of capital to get your own site up and running. Hosting, the domain, all of that stuff is roughly $100/year or so. Not a lot of money, but not completely trivial either. Of course there are free blogging platforms but all of those force you to give up some degree of control, and make it harder or impossible to sell and/or monetize in some cases.
2) You need to be in it for the long haul. Don’t expect to make millions your first year. In fact, don’t expect to make any money the first year. Still interested? Read on.
3) Expect to write, a lot. Expect to have to push yourself to create lots of new content. And expect that you will have to put some thought into this. How much do you typically write each day? Is it enough to publish blog articles on a regular basis? Keep in mind that you will have to put in serious footwork on the promotion side as well.
4) Expect to work at least as hard on promoting your blog as you do on creating the content itself. This can be a real challenge to someone who just wants to write. It is not easy to market yourself and get your site “out there” and on the map. It takes real work.
In the long run, it is really nice to have a big authority website that has lots of traffic and income flowing towards it every day. But you are probably underestimating how much work it will take to produce such a website. And the competition has essentially increased over time, making it a much tougher game than it used to be.
Big rewards for building your own blog, which is essentially the same thing as building your own business (if you do it right). However, there is an alternative, and that is…..
Possibility two: Find freelance writing jobs about topic XYou can write about your topic of choice and get paid per article, or per word in some cases.
This is entirely possible and it may even be a lot easier than you think.
First of all, there are marketplaces that attempt to bring together publishers and writers. So people post jobs at such a marketplace where they are looking for a writer about various topics. You can sign up for those marketplaces (generally for free) and then take on such jobs to write about different things. The jobs are typically sorted by category so you can hopefully zero in on what you want to write about.
This can easily scale over time as you improve your skills. You might start by writing for 1 penny per word, which may sound like small peanuts and not worth your time. But if you keep at it and continue to improve, you may be able to get a more permanent position writing for an established website. If you learn to position yourself as an expert in your field then you can command higher freelance fees. Of course, you have to have the writing chops to actually back up your claims. For example, you can’t exactly ask for a raise if you are writing about sports but you know nothing about sports. By improving your writing skills over time AND having an in-depth knowledge about a topic you can eventually command higher fees for your writing.
In other words, you can write freelance, start out small, and turn it into something bigger by:
1) Improving your writing skills.
2) Increasing your expert knowledge of a subject, and thus specializing.
And perhaps most interesting of all, you can combine these two methods.
So take advantage of these wonderful opportunities the internet provides to everyone. To see an example of how to take advantage of it go to: http://visitwebpages.info/paypalchecks/
